Focus Question: Do unions really help workers?

Attention workers! Are you stuck in a job that doesn’t either give you benefits or doesn’t provides you with the best benefits there could be? Well, there are many behind the scenes of companies that have not good but bad working conditions. The problem is that many workers don’t have benefits at their work and can’t change their bosses mind and the workers are the ones that get affected. Beware because Wal-Mart is one of those companies. Wal-Mart teaches it’s workers from the moment they start to work that they are no need of unions and if discover that there’s a union, the Labor Relations Team come and try to solve the problem immediately, not letting the union to start. Unions are when 2 or more workers unite making a group. Many workers are in unions in which it is said to help them in many ways. Would unions in Wal-Mart help workers? Unions are benefits in your work in which it pressures employees to help you give you the benefits that need to be apply.

Unions can help all of you, workers, which need better benefits in your work. It has been said before that unions contribute better with benefits than with wages. [1] Have you had problems with your health insurance at work? This group could provide you a better health insurance for you by them pressuring the bosses. A health insurance of your own come with many benefits such as what the health insurance, Aetna, includes. Aetna provides a more variety of choices of your own like doctors, hospitals, health providers, etc.[2] Wouldn’t you rather have a health insurance like Aetna rather than nothing? Unions have had an effect to our society. It has been proven that 84% that have health insurance have made the decision of being part of unions while on the other hand, sadly, 55% don’t have but the reason is that they are not part of unions. [3] Talking about health, 83% of workers are paid when they are sick and can’t assist work because they are ill.[4] Unlike not being part of a workers group, 64% aren’t paid. [5] Wal-Mart is an anti-union company that doesn’t support human rights so it would make sense that with unions your benefits would be better. [6]

Everybody has a better chance of a better future with unions. Just do it. Be part of it and there will be benefits.Think about pension plan. Do you know what pension plan is? Pension plan is an allowance for the future. You could have a pension plan for you in the future. If you don’t have one and your boss doesn’t want you, why don’t you consult a union? Wouldn’t it be nice for having a pension plan and organizing how much you would like to contribute for your account each month? Don’t you want to have a retirement plan organize ahead of time? There are numerous number of people that don’t have a retirement plan. As mention before, the approximate percentage of workers having a retirement plan is 87 % in which the workers belong in unions. [7] Like health insurance, you get to pick, your own retirement plan and one of them is Defined Benefit Plan. [8] In Defined Benefit Plan, you ge a specific percentage out of your salary each month and retirement benefits.[9] Unions take part 78% of Defined Benefit Plan, however, nonunion take part of it only 19%.[10]

Unions are an important contribution to our society. They have help workers with their benefits. Unions have been a helpful hand. Do you ever wish to have a longer vacation that pays you while you are out? Many people would wish to get a longer vacation instead of two weeks plus getting paid. Wal-Mart workers would definitely like to take a break from harsh rules.Well, your solution is a union. Unions have help increase 26% more vacation time![11] 14% of unionized get paid as to when they leave for vacation.[12] Are you having a hard time with your wage? Unions have successfully help increase wages over time in many places. This means more money for your pocket and more opportunities for you to buy what you want or need. An approximate raise of wages is 20%.[13]

Unions would give you better benefits no matter what. Benefits don’t come from nowhere. They come because of union’s voices such as the factories of Calypso, Atlantic, and Manufacturas del Rio in which they have had complaints concerning its state of rights. These voices versus the companies buyer is thought to give hope for a better place and future.[14] Unions have help us have a better life as shown in one of the article where a union helps establish a disemployment plan funded by the government. [15] Everybody should try to join unions. It’s just like a puzzle piece that before putting together it is confusing and lonely, but when together, it makes one strong united puzzle. Wal-Mart would be a better place with unions. Be part of a union. Make a difference.

Remember that unions help you, not hurt you.

Student Blogging Challenge # 9

1.)Will you continue blogging over your summer holidays (Northern hemisphere) or during the winter term (Southern Hemisphere)? Why or why not?

Well, what do you think? I am not really so sure what I’m going to do. One side of me says that I should but the other side of me isn’t that  sure. I think I will continue because I like writing about many topics. On the other hand, I think I should take a break for a while and then continue. What would you choose?

2.)If you didn’t get many visitors to your blog (other than your classmates), what do you think you need to do to get them to visit?

In my perspective, I did get visitors but for me, it wasn’t enough. I saw other classmates that had triple the visitors than what I had. I think my key to get more visitors is to comment more other blogs. That was one of my weakest things that I didn’t do.

Mario Kart

listal.com

Have you ever played the game Mario Kart on your computer? Isn’t it interesting that in your computer you don’t need a control to play? Well, I think I enjoy playing this game better on the computer than on  any other device because it is more challenging for my hands. On other devices such as the DS, I know the buttons front and back and don’t even bother to look at it. Also, I enjoy playing this game on my computer because it has unique games than the ones that I have on my other devices. They mess with me and my brain. In one race, it has several different routes that I find myself losing at the end because I was confuse. What do you think? (This was Student Blogging Challenge #8 )

Family Reunion

The best times of my life is hanging with my family. I really enjoy being with my family because it’s just an amazing thing seeing that you have  more than thirty cousins here with you, at that instant moment. Probably you could guess how many uncles and aunties I have by the number of cousins,  and they are fifteen. This is just from one side of my family. Every time I have a family reunion is usually from my dad’s side when we are in Mexico. We just gather together as a moment to be enjoyed because families from U.S usually go during summer. Everybody talks about anything and everybody does activities together (like playing soccer or playing jump rope). Sincerely, I don’t remember any conversations that we talk about but what I do know, is, that there are a lot of conversations floating around every single time. Do you enjoy being with your family? Where do you go to visit them? (This is part of Student Blogging Challenge #7. )

Earth Day

The other day, my classmates and I were able to do an assignment in which we explain how we could help Earth based on Earth Day.  I decided to help the Earth by recycling my batteries by bringing them to school in which the school takes them to be recycled. By this, I will avoid ground water getting contaminated by the batteries that have some bad chemicals. What did you do to help Earth? My school, made a spirit competition on collecting bottle caps. The class that gets the most bottle caps, will win a pizza party and points for their team. This is all due to honoring Earth. What do you think about this spirit competition? Would you like a spirit competition in your school like that? (This was Student Blogging Challenge #7.)

Learning Outside of School?

As part of Student Blogging Challenge #6 , we are suppose to write about what we have learned outside of school. Well, I have learned a lot of things. The first thing that I have learned outside of school, is playing the accordion. For me, it’s one of the best opportunities I have ever had. I went to music class near my city paid by father where an accordion teacher would teach several kids. He would make the class fun and entertaining (even for adults). At first, I started really low because I was shy but by the end, I was the best. Nobody could beat me  and bring me down. Due to this, I am the kind of person I am now and I’m glad that I am. It opened me a new door filled with opportunities. Have you ever had something happen to you that you think shaped your life?

Response To Literature: The Little Prince

Response to The Little Prince

Remembering your friend that a couple of seconds was here beside you is a memory in which you wish you could go back to that moment to clarify all your questions that are flowing in your mind. In The Little Prince by the author and illustrator Antoine De Saint Exupery, the main character, the Little Prince, finds himself in a situation in which he is desperate to have a friend. The little boy or narrator, crashes in the Sahara Desert while navigating his plane and met the Little Prince who was worried about  his only flower found back on his planet, Asteroid B6I2. The Little Prince starts telling the story of how he left behind everything in order to come to Earth. On his way from his planet, this solitary Prince met a fox in which he discovers the secret of life by him. In search of water, the narrator and Prince travel through the Sahara Desert until they find a well. The main character, crosses with a snake in which it tries to convince the Prince to come with him. Wondering if the Prince would depart from Earth even though he was leaving a sad heart behind, was the part in the last few pages that hold most interest. At the end, the main character decides to leave planet Earth by getting a snake bite which will make him travel faster somehow. Trying and experiencing new things, could be the effect of changing.

There isn’t any wonder of why Antoine De Saint Exupery wrote this book. She wrote it to show us being adventurous could be the cause of you to change. Starting with the Little Prince, being adventurous, brave, stubborn, curious, impatient, loyal, and clever is how this book starts. He wants a better place for his flower and while being at Earth, he wants to know how a flower could defend itself. If he didn’t have these characteristics, the following events in the next few paragraphs wouldn’t have happen. Following with the little boy or narrator, being honest, generous, kind, impatient, and angry started at the first few pages. By the end, the impatience change to patience, the anger changed to happiness, and curiosity arose from him. When he was angry and overwhelmed it was because of the same topic as the Little Prince; why a flower had thorns and how could it defend itself. The flower was tough, demanding, and picky. If this flower wouldn’t have been on Asteroid B6I2, the Little Prince would of have never experienced being on planet Earth and finding the secret of life. The secret of life is, “It is only with the heart that one can see righty; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Serious, brave, smart, honest, sincere, proactive, opinionated, and adventurous is the fox in which he plays an important part of the book. He was the one that had knew the secret of life and passed it down to the Prince.

Have you ever change something about your thoughts and feelings after you experienced or tried something? After being criticize for the narrator’s boa constrictor, the narrator realized that first of all, he wasn’t a good drawer and second of all, adults had their own little world besides children because they wouldn’t understand the narrator of what he drew. He just gave up. Knowing the Little Prince required the boy or narrator to have sympathy and patience in which some cases like at the beginning with the sheep drawing, made the boy not to give up after being pressured to draw a sheep that satisfied the stranger. Traveling from planet to planet gave the main character a sense of who could be his friend but none of them really interested him. Seeking for a place where the Little Prince’s flower could be made him meet a fox in which he is introduced to the secret of life and applied it to his friendship with he boy. Seeing the plants, the roses feeling the difference with his flower on Asteroid, made him wake up, see that a flower had tamed him.

The effect of changing could be seen as the results of trying new things in this book, “The Little Prince.” The stars represent that the two strangers, the Prince and the boy, took their time to know each other and become friends. What they really never expected! It represents the main character’s laughter in memory of his laughter for his friends, the boy or narrator. The stars in the book, was that it is used as guidance but not for any guidance but guidance for friendship and memory.  The flower is a symbol of having a friendship otherwise, the Prince  would of have been alone in the planet and never experienced having a friend. The Sahara Desert, is a desert in search of a friend since it’s lonely and dry so the Prince and the boy met in the desert needing each other. The stories are told there from the main character’s perspective about his adventures and the secret of life. When the two characters, the narrator and main character were looking for water in the desert, it showed that they were thirsty to have a friend. That looking for a friend could be as hard as looking for water in the desert. This event united more both character’s feelings because the boy (narrator), felt the need of protecting the Prince thinking, “My Little Prince, don’t go. Stay with me forever!”I think experimenting seeing the water pills was a sign saying to the Prince, “No, don’t drink it! Water needs to be looked!” For this reason, the Prince responded to the merchant who was selling the pills that he would rather go to a spring of water in fifty-three minutes. In this area, he would probably find his friend

Nevertheless, wondering about the main character’s decision if he was going to leave Earth was the part where you were curious of what the answer would be. The answer was that the Prince got bitten by a snake and left the little boy returning to his planet. No wonder the author left us this message, “Trying and experimenting new things could be the effect of you changing in your thought and feelings .”  Do you agree with it?
